McAlester man sentenced to 77 months for assault with suffocation

Nathaniel Dewayne Meashintubby, a resident of McAlester, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 77 months in prison for felony assault. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma reported that Meashintubby's charge involved "Assault of a Spouse, Intimate Partner, and Dating Partner by Strangling, Suffocating, or Attempting to Strangle or Suffocate."

The investigation that led to these charges was conducted by the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. On November 18, 2024, Meashintubby admitted guilt to the charge, which stemmed from an incident on March 10, 2024. During this incident, he caused "serious bodily injury" to the victim by suffocation. This crime took place in LeFlore County, part of the Choctaw Nation Reservation, located in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The sentencing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Meashintubby will be held by the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a United States Bureau of Prisons facility to begin his incarceration, which allows for no possibility of parole.

The United States' legal representation was provided by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson.
