Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, together with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has announced changes to the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database. This effort aims to create a consistent and reliable resource for verifying the legal status of non-citizens across the country.
The revisions to the SAVE database include removing fees for searches, improving accuracy by breaking down information silos, and streamlining the process for checking multiple statuses. The updates also integrate criminal records, immigration timelines, and current addresses. New features, such as automatic status updates and a more accessible user interface, are designed to assist federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal agencies in preventing non-citizens from accessing benefits illegitimately or voting in elections.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated, “Illegal aliens have exploited outdated systems to defraud Americans and taint our elections. Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, this revamped SAVE system will ensure government officials can swiftly verify legal status, halting entitlements and voter fraud.”
The DHS plans to provide continuous updates to involved parties as the SAVE Optimization Plan is implemented.
