U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge have seized over $950,000 worth of cocaine concealed within a vehicle. The action took place as officers intercepted the illicit drugs on April 17.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry remarked on the recent developments: “It has been a busy week for us with narcotics seizures, but our CBP officers never let down their guard.”
The incident involved a black Dodge sedan entering from Mexico. CBP officers conducted a further inspection using nonintrusive inspection equipment and a canine team. This led to the discovery of 27 packages of suspected cocaine, weighing a total of 71.16 pounds (32.28 kg), hidden inside the vehicle.
The Office of Field Operations at CBP confiscated the drugs and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations subsequently took the vehicle's occupants into custody and began a criminal investigation.
