Meeting focuses on US engagement with Pacific Islands Forum

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau recently engaged in a meeting with the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) delegation, which included Dr. ‘Aisake Eke, the Prime Minister of Tonga and current PIF Chair, as well as PIF Secretary General Baron Waqa. According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Deputy Secretary Landau emphasized the United States' dedication to maintaining strong regional ties as a Pacific power. The discussions during the meeting included ways to enhance cooperation on various issues, aiming to ensure a free, open, and prosperous Pacific region. In addition, the participants explored opportunities to bolster commercial ties, with the goal of fostering sustainable economic development that benefits both Americans and Pacific Islanders.
