In a recent executive order, the President outlined a series of measures aimed at advancing artificial intelligence (AI) education for America's youth. The initiative seeks to provide American students with the necessary skills and understanding to navigate and innovate within an AI-driven world.

According to the order, "Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the modern world, driving innovation across industries, enhancing productivity, and reshaping the way we live and work." To maintain the nation's competitive edge, the importance of instilling AI competency in young learners is a focal point. The President emphasized that "early learning and exposure to AI concepts not only demystifies this powerful technology but also sparks curiosity and creativity."

The White House has established a task force to implement the new policy, termed the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education. This task force, chaired by the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, includes members from various governmental departments and agencies. The task force is tasked with coordinating federal efforts related to AI education.

One of the notable initiatives under the new policy is the Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge, which the task force will organize within 90 days. This challenge aims to "encourage and highlight student and educator achievements in AI" and "promote wide geographic adoption of technological advancement."

The order also emphasizes the need to "foster early exposure to AI concepts and technology," aiming to "develop an AI-ready workforce and the next generation of American AI innovators." Further, it outlines a framework for enhancing educator training in AI to be integrated across all subjects. The importance of public-private partnerships with AI industry leaders and academic institutions is also highlighted to develop educational resources.

The Secretary of Education and the National Science Foundation (NSF) are directed to prioritize AI in their programs. It includes using AI to improve educational outcomes, and teacher training, and integrating AI tools into classrooms.

In addition, within 120 days, the Secretary of Labor is charged with increasing participation in AI-related registered apprenticeships. This involves using "apprenticeship intermediary contracts and allocating existing discretionary funds" for engagement with industry organizations.

The President stated that "the policy of the United States to promote AI literacy and proficiency among Americans" remains a priority action, ensuring that students are prepared for a technology-driven future workforce.
