A Brooklyn, New York woman has been sentenced to four years in prison for her involvement in an armed robbery of a Family Dollar store in Swan Quarter, Hyde County. Victoria Michelle Cyren Clarke, 32, pled guilty in November 2024 to charges of interference with commerce by robbery and aiding and abetting the crime.

The incident occurred on June 4, 2023, when the Hyde County Sheriff's Office received a report of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar on US Highway 264. Two armed individuals entered the store, taking over $2,000 in cash before fleeing in a vehicle driven by Clarke. A high-speed chase ensued, reaching speeds over 100 mph and culminating after 18 miles. Clarke, along with the robbers and two unrestrained children, was apprehended. Investigations revealed Clarke's involvement in procuring firearms and renting the getaway vehicle.

"The Hyde County Sheriff's Office is committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and businesses," stated Sheriff Guire Cahoon. He noted the seriousness of the crime and expressed gratitude for the prompt response from deputies and assistance from the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office. "Violent crime has no place in our community, and we will continue working tirelessly to protect the people of Hyde County."

The sentencing was announced by Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, following the decision by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan.
