Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company LLC, based in Kea’au, Hawaii, has announced a voluntary recall of its Mauna Loa Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamias. This recall involves products in both 0.6oz and 4oz bags due to possible undeclared almonds and cashews. Those with allergies or severe sensitivity to these nuts risk serious allergic reactions if they consume the affected products.
The specific products under recall were distributed to several retail outlets across various states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Guam.
The recalled 0.6oz bags are identified by the UPC 0 72992 05464 4, with lot numbers K5069C1 and K5069C2, and have a best-by date of October 2026. The 4oz bags carry the UPC 0 72992 05556 6, with lot numbers B4339E1 and B4340E1, and a best-by date of July 2026.
To date, there have been no reports of illnesses or adverse reactions related to these products.
The recall was instigated following Mauna Loa’s internal quality control review, which found that a batch, made by a third-party co-manufacturer, included the undeclared nuts. Mauna Loa promptly took steps to contain the affected items, informed the co-manufacturer, alerted consumers and distributors, and notified the FDA.
Consumers who have acquired the specified dark chocolate covered macadamias and have an allergy to almonds or cashews are advised not to consume the product. They can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
