U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. recently reviewed his first 100 days in office with an emphasis on the reduction of violent crime in the District of Columbia. A reported 25 percent decrease in violent crime, calculated year-to-date, was noted as a significant achievement. "This office is working diligently and collaboratively to achieve a lower rate in violent crime and in crime, across the board, for the residents and visitors to our nation's capital," stated Martin.

Martin is part of the President Trump’s “Make DC Safe and Beautiful” Task Force. Statistics from the Metropolitan Police Department support these findings, showing a 30 percent decline in robberies and a decrease in homicides for 2025 so far.

Expressing gratitude for the efforts of his team, Martin commented, "I am proud of the tireless work that the people in this office do, day in and day out, to serve this community and their country."

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has pursued legal action against individuals charged with violent crimes in various settings, including offenses against police officers and near schools. Some recent cases include multiple defendants charged with assaults on law enforcement and public incidents, an armed robber sentenced to over eight years, and a 35-year sentence for a 2023 rape and kidnapping case.
