Felon sentenced to 28 months for firearm possession

Deionta Person, aged 27, from Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., along with Sean Ryan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office Criminal and Cyber Division, Chief Jessica M. E. Taylor of the United States Park Police (USPP), and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Person pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon on January 15, 2025. U.S. District Court Judge Randolph D. Moss also imposed a three-year supervised release, in addition to the prison term.

Court documents reveal that on September 5, 2021, USPP officers observed Person and three others exiting a vehicle towards an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Douglass Place, SE. When officers attempted to intervene, Person fled, discarding a black Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun loaded with 21 rounds, which was subsequently recovered by USPP.

On December 1, 2023, MPD officers saw Person in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked on the 2700 block of Douglass Place, SE. As officers approached, Person fled on foot, disposing of a Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun with a machine gun conversion device, loaded with 25 rounds.

Person's history includes a conviction for robbery in June 2018 in Prince George’s County, Maryland, resulting in a 15-year sentence, with 12 years suspended.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the U.S. Park Police and the Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance from the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared English, with support from former Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Song.
