Timothy Eugene Taylor, 36, of the District of Columbia, received a 72-month prison sentence in U.S. District Court for illegal possession of a semiautomatic pistol and distribution quantities of phencyclidine (PCP), as announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. Taylor, a previously convicted felon, pleaded guilty on October 1, 2024, to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon and possession with intent to distribute PCP. In addition to the prison term, Judge Randolph D. Moss ordered Taylor to serve three years of supervised release.
According to court records, on August 11, 2023, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District Crime Suppression Team observed Taylor and another man on the 4300 block of 3rd St., SE, a known high-crime area. Noticing a distinct L-shaped bulge in Taylor's satchel, officers approached him. When asked about a firearm, Taylor denied having one and pointed to a nearby house. Officers exited their vehicle for a clearer view. Taylor fled into a building, where officers found and arrested him. Inside his satchel, officers discovered a loaded Smith and Wesson M&P 9 2.0 9mm semiautomatic pistol with 21 rounds and three vials of PCP, indicative of distribution.
Taylor has a prior felony conviction for illegal firearm possession. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Crime Suppression Team and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Helfand.
