Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell has announced that a Mexican national has been sentenced for illegal reentry after deportation. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler sentenced Elver Cerecedo-Tellez, 30, to time served and ordered his removal from the United States on April 29, 2025.

Cerecedo-Tellez faced charges after being indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2025. He admitted to the charges, pleading guilty on March 21, 2025.

Cerecedo-Tellez is a non-citizen and Mexican national who was previously deported to Mexico in 2018. He was found in the United States again in May 2024. Reentering the U.S. after deportation is classified as a felony.

The case underwent investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder handling the prosecution.

Following his sentencing, Cerecedo-Tellez was placed in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
