United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has appointed Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. as the Interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. Gorgon was officially sworn in by Chief United States District Court Judge Sean F. Cox. In his new role, Gorgon will be responsible for all federal criminal and civil litigation within the district, which encompasses a population of 6.5 million people. He will oversee a team of about 190 employees, including prosecutors, civil litigators, and support staff.

Gorgon has deep ties to the region, being a lifelong resident of Detroit. He completed his education at Southwestern High School and the University of Michigan, where he later taught elementary science within the Detroit Public Schools system.

After earning his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, Gorgon clerked for the Honorable Anna Diggs Taylor of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Honorable Damon J. Keith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He later became a partner at Honigman LLP. Gorgon eventually returned to public service at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit, where he continues to contribute to the community.
