Victor Blanco, formerly an inmate at United States Penitentiary Canaan in Waymart, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison. The sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge Robert D. Mariani for Blanco's involvement in an assault with a dangerous weapon.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus clarified that Blanco had been found guilty during a bench trial. The incident involved Blanco stabbing another inmate using a sharpened piece of metal, equipped with a bed sheet handle, at the USP-Canaan outdoor recreation yard.
In a related development, a co-defendant named Isaac Carreno received a 31-month sentence after pleading guilty to participating in the same offense.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Prisons alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys James Buchanan and Gerard Donahue.
