U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Newark have arrested a 23-year-old Venezuelan national, Juan Luis Ramos Marin, in East Orange on April 29. Ramos, who was in the U.S. illegally, is wanted in Venezuela for homicide. According to ICE Newark Field Office Director John Tsoukaris, "This illegal alien wanted for a violent crime committed overseas was placed into removal proceedings for violating immigration law by illegally entering the United States."
Ramos has a record of criminal behavior on the East Coast, including convictions for disorderly conduct and petit larceny. New charges related to theft offenses are pending, involving property theft valued between $100 and $25,000 and possession of stolen property with intent to sell.
On April 9, the U.S. Border Patrol identified Ramos as a fugitive wanted in Brazil and referred him to ICE Newark. His arrest was carried out with support from Homeland Security Investigations Newark and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Ramos has been served with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge and remains in custody without bond.
