U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took Uzbekistan national Ulugbek Davronov into custody on April 28 in New York City. The 21-year-old faces charges of rape, sexual misconduct, attempted assault, and sexual abuse.
"ICE places a high priority on arresting and removing criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety, especially those who commit heinous crimes against residents of New York City," stated William P. Joyce, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City. He added that the efforts included collaboration with FBI partners, ensuring Davronov's apprehension after his release from local custody.
Davronov had been initially encountered by U.S. Border Patrol on December 28, 2022, near Lukeville, Arizona, after he illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border without admission or parole. Following this, Border Patrol arrested him for removal proceedings, and later, an immigration judge ordered his removal in absentia on July 28, 2023. The Queens County Criminal Court charged Davronov with several offenses on February 19, and ICE lodged an immigration detainer that day. However, he was released by Queens County Central Booking the following day without ICE notification.
His subsequent arrest was executed by ICE Fugitive Operations officers and Homeland Security Investigations special agents during a targeted operation in Staten Island, and he is now detained in ICE custody.
