Rachel C. Hernandez Acting United States Attorney for the District of Arizona | U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona
During a recent enforcement operation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona, 287 individuals have been charged with immigration-related offenses. This operation, extending from April 26 to May 5, 2025, involved cases against individuals accused of illegal re-entry and unlawful entry into the United States. In addition, 21 cases were filed against individuals involved in alien smuggling.
The charges arose from collaborative efforts between various federal law enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, among others.
Among the significant cases were United States v. Krystal Lopez, involving a smuggling attempt discovered during a vehicle check; United States v. Gloria Lopez Corona, where a smuggling attempt was detected at the San Luis Port of Entry; and United States v. Carlos Murillo, a case of smuggling recruitment through social media.
The U.S. Attorney's Office emphasized that "criminal complaints and indictments are simply methods by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt."
These operations are part of "Operation Take Back America," a DOJ initiative aimed at curbing illegal immigration and dismantling criminal networks.
