Mexican national pleads guilty to identity fraud in Louisiana

A Mexican national, Jose Guadalupe Munoz-Perez, has pleaded guilty to illegally using a Social Security number to obtain a Louisiana driver's license. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the plea on April 29, 2025. Munoz, aged 46, admitted to violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

Munoz faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. He could also be fined up to $250,000 and is required to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for June 5, 2025, before United States District Court Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

Court documents reveal that on July 24, 2020, Munoz applied for the renewal of a Louisiana driver's license at a Public Tag Agency in Jefferson Parish using another person's name and Social Security number. The Social Security Administration confirmed that the number belonged to an individual from Puerto Rico.

Munoz acknowledged his intent was to deceive others by falsely claiming the identity as his own. U.S. Attorney Evans commended Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Social Security Administration's Office of the Inspector General for their investigative work on this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is leading the prosecution.
