A Guatemalan national has been indicted in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. William Noel Mazariegos Lopez, 43, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was initially charged by criminal complaint on March 14, 2025, and is currently detained.
The charging documents reveal that Mazariegos Lopez entered the U.S. without inspection by an immigration officer at an unspecified time and place. In October 2012, he was convicted in Lynn District Court for operating under the influence of liquor and a compulsory insurance violation. Following this, immigration authorities initiated deportation proceedings in October 2017 after determining his illegal entry into the country. He was subsequently removed to Guatemala on November 29, 2017.
Mazariegos Lopez later reentered the U.S., leading to his arrest by U.S. Border Patrol on April 28, 2018. He was again removed to Guatemala on May 7, 2018. Despite these removals, he reentered the U.S. once more without authorization at an unknown date and location.
On August 15, 2021, immigration authorities discovered Mazariegos Lopez's presence in the U.S. following an arrest by Essex County Sheriff’s Department. By June 9, 2022, he faced multiple convictions in Lynn District Court related to operating under the influence of liquor and driving with a suspended license.
The charge against him could result in up to a 20-year prison sentence along with three years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000 if convicted. Deportation will follow any imposed sentence completion.
The announcement came from United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin is handling prosecution duties for this case.
All details within the charging documents are allegations; Mazariegos Lopez remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
