Javarry Peaks, a 19-year-old resident of the District, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a shooting incident that occurred in March 2025 on a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority bus. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Michael Anzallo of the Metro Transit Police Department.

Peaks entered his plea in the Superior Court to aggravated assault while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. He is scheduled for sentencing on July 3, 2025, before Judge Rainey Brandt and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.

According to evidence presented by the government, on March 8, 2025, both Peaks and the victim boarded a WMATA bus at Anacostia metro station around 9:30 p.m. While traveling along the V2 route, an interaction between them led to Peaks exiting and re-entering the bus before shooting the victim once in the chest at approximately 9:46 p.m., after asking the bus operator if he could disembark.

Peaks fled the scene but was arrested on March 25, 2025, and has remained in custody since then. The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Goldstein following an investigation conducted by the Metro Transit Police Department.

This action is part of President Donald J. Trump’s 'Make DC Safe and Beautiful Again' initiative.
