East CK Trading, Inc., based in Long Island City, NY, has issued a recall for its 8-ounce packages of "Licorice Plum" food treats. The recall is due to the presence of undeclared sulfites and the unapproved color Amaranth (E123). The company warns that consumers with severe sulfite sensitivity could face serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The affected "Licorice Plum" products were distributed across the nation through retail stores and mail orders. These items are packaged in clear plastic bottles and bear the UPC code 0077-20729. As of now, no illnesses or allergic reactions related to this product have been reported.

The recall was initiated following routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors. Further analysis by Food Laboratory personnel confirmed the presence of sulfites in the 8-ounce packages, which were not declared on the label. Consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving can trigger severe reactions in some asthmatics, with potential for anaphylactic shock in certain sensitive individuals. Tests revealed that each serving of "Licorice Plum" contains 29.1 milligrams of sulfites.

Consumers who purchased these packages are advised to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, consumers may contact East CK Trading at 1-718-857-0008.
