FTC and DOJ seek identification of anticompetitive regulations

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division have issued a joint letter to agency heads across the federal government. The letter calls for the identification of regulations that may hinder competition, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

FTC Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson and Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division are leading this initiative, which aligns with President Trump's Executive Order on Reducing Anticompetitive Regulatory Barriers. This Executive Order requires agency heads to list anticompetitive regulations under their jurisdiction and provide recommendations for deletion, modification, or justification for their effects.

This action follows a Request for Information by the FTC, inviting public comments on how federal regulations impact competition in the U.S. economy. The feedback from this request, along with agency submissions, will help form a consolidated list of suggested regulatory changes to be presented to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

The FTC's mission includes promoting competition and protecting consumers. They emphasize that they do not solicit money or make threats and encourage individuals to learn about consumer benefits from competition or file antitrust complaints if necessary.

For updates and resources, the public is encouraged to follow the FTC on social media, subscribe to press releases, and read their blog.
