The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is promoting the 12th annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, taking place from May 5-9, 2025. This event aims to address falls, which are the leading cause of fatalities in the construction industry.

OSHA encourages employers nationwide to pause their workday for "stand-down" activities. These include safety demonstrations, hazard recognition and fall prevention training, as well as discussions about specific job hazards such as roofing, ladder use, and scaffold work.

Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling will attend the 2025 Stand-Down event at the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The site currently hosts multiple construction and renovation projects.

To facilitate participation, OSHA will list free public events on its website for both construction and other industry workers to engage locally.

The National Safety Stand-Down is a key part of OSHA’s Fall Prevention Campaign and was developed with The Center for Construction Research and Training. It coincides with Construction Safety Week and aims to prevent falls in construction. Since its inception in 2012, over 10 million workers have been trained through this initiative.
