Today, a jury found three members of the Manhattan-based gang "Own Every Dollar" (OED) guilty of multiple crimes including four murders, 10 attempted murders, drug trafficking, and gun running. The U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton issued a statement highlighting the impact of gang violence on the city. He emphasized that such violence affects not only rival gang members but also innocent bystanders and entire communities.
Clayton stated: "Gang violence is a plague on our city, and today’s convictions make clear that rival gang members are not the only victims." He noted that this prosecution involved charging 24 OED members for committing acts of violence and stressed the commitment of federal authorities to combating gang-related crime.
The convicted individuals—Jowenky Nunez Jr., Brian Hernandez, and Iyaury Rodriguez-Rosario—are facing mandatory life sentences. Clayton expressed gratitude for the efforts of prosecutors and law enforcement partners in bringing these individuals to justice, stating: "Because of the excellent work of our prosecutors and partners, Jowenky Nunez Jr., Brian Hernandez, and Iyaury Rodriguez-Rosario face mandatory life sentences. They will never again terrorize this city."
Clayton's statement also served as a warning to other gang members who might engage in similar criminal activities.
