Muscatine man sentenced to 27 years for child pornography offenses

A Muscatine man has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for the production and possession of child pornography. The sentence was handed down yesterday in Davenport, Iowa.

Court documents revealed that law enforcement received CyberTips indicating an account linked to Calvin Shawn Carter, 29, contained files with child sexual abuse material. A search of Carter's residence led to the seizure of electronic devices containing videos and images of such material, which Carter produced involving a minor victim between 2021 and 2023. Additional images and videos were found on Carter's phone depicting child sexual abuse material involving minor males.

Following his prison term, Carter will undergo a ten-year period of supervised release. Federal sentences do not allow for parole.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation was conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety-Division of Criminal Investigation-Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources to apprehend individuals exploiting children online and rescue victims.
