U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently detained a Honduran national in Fairfax, Virginia, following the dismissal of serious charges against him by the local prosecutor. The individual, Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez, aged 26, was apprehended on May 2 after the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s attorney dropped charges related to abduction with intent to defile and burglary.
Russell Hott, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Washington, D.C. Field Office Director, commented on the arrest: “Though the prosecutor saw fit to drop his most recent charges, Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez has been convicted of numerous crimes in Virginia and represents a calamitous hazard to our Virginia residents.” He further stated that ICE will continue efforts to prioritize public safety by removing criminal alien offenders from communities in Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
Baquedano-Rodriguez's legal troubles began when he was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol on August 25, 2018, for illegal entry into the United States near Yuma, Arizona. After being issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge by Border Patrol officials, he was released on bond in January 2019.
His criminal record includes multiple arrests and convictions in Virginia. On November 9, 2021, Fairfax County Police charged him with indecent liberties involving a child and indecent exposure. Further convictions followed in September and October of 2022 for property damage-related offenses and disorderly conduct.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed his commitment to public safety: “Protecting Virginians has been a top priority of our administration since day one,” highlighting the role of law enforcement officers at all levels in maintaining safety.
Despite being ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge in June 2024, Baquedano-Rodriguez remained until his recent arrest by ICE officers who served him with a warrant of removal. He is currently held in ICE custody.
The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities through ICE's hotline or online tip form. More information about ICE’s community safety mission can be found on their social media platform X at @EROWashington.
