Air and Marine Operations (AMO), part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, intercepted a vessel on Wednesday carrying four individuals from Uzbekistan who were attempting to enter Vieques, Puerto Rico.
On May 7, a marine unit in Fajardo inspected a boat with seven occupants trying to reach Isabel Segunda on Vieques. Three of the passengers were U.S. citizens, while the other four—three men and one woman—claimed to be from Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek nationals lacked documentation for authorized entry or stay in the United States. The group stated they had departed from St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Ramey Sector Border Patrol agents took custody of the four Uzbek nationals for immigration processing and removal.
"AMO safeguards our Nation by anticipating and confronting security threats through our aviation and maritime law enforcement expertise, innovative capabilities, and partnerships at the border and beyond," said an AMO representative. The organization operates across air and maritime environments throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
