Hugo resident sentenced to over five years for possession of exploitative material

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced the sentencing of Steven Mark McAnally, a 65-year-old resident of Hugo, Oklahoma. McAnally received a 63-month prison sentence for possessing material involving the sexual exploitation of a minor. Upon release, he will be subject to five years of supervised probation.

This case emerged from an investigation conducted by the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. McAnally pleaded guilty to the charge on December 12, 2024. Investigators revealed that in July 2023, he knowingly possessed visual depictions from the internet showing minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, which he accessed with intent to view.

The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006. The program aims to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating resources at federal, state, and local levels to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.

Individuals with information regarding child sexual exploitation are encouraged to contact law enforcement through various channels such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children or Homeland Security Investigations.

The sentencing hearing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. McAnally is currently in custody under the U.S. Marshals Service until his transfer to a designated Bureau of Prisons facility where he will serve his sentence without parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah McAmis represented the government during the sentencing hearing.
