Oklahoma City man sentenced for illegal ammo possession after violent incidents

Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma

A man from Oklahoma City has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for illegal possession of ammunition following a previous felony conviction. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

The case dates back to July 22, 2024, when officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) responded to a reported shooting. A victim reported that a man had shot at his vehicle on Southwest 32nd Street, and the suspect's description matched Alex Davon Hardimon. Later, another call led officers to an assault victim in a hospital who claimed Hardimon attacked her at a club and later at her home with a rifle.

Officers located Hardimon's vehicle and arrested him on charges of assault and domestic violence. During the arrest, two rounds of live ammunition were found in his pocket. On August 20, 2024, Hardimon was charged by a federal Grand Jury for being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Hardimon pleaded guilty on November 19, 2024, admitting he knowingly possessed the ammunition despite his felony record. At the sentencing hearing on April 30, 2025, U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick sentenced him to serve time in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Wyrick noted Hardimon’s extensive criminal history as part of his decision.

The investigation involved Homeland Security Investigations and OCPD with Assistant U.S. Attorney David Nichols Jr. prosecuting the case.

This prosecution is part of "Operation 922" and "Shots Fired," initiatives under Project Safe Neighborhoods aimed at reducing gun violence and enforcing firearms laws related to domestic violence and other crimes involving firearms discharge.
