Officials from the United States and Brazil gathered in Washington, D.C., on May 12 for the 9th Disarmament and Nonproliferation Dialogue. The U.S. delegation was co-led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Security and Nonproliferation, alongside the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Arms Control, Deterrence, and Stability. The Brazilian side was led by the Director of the Department of Strategic, Defense, and Disarmament Affairs from Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The dialogue covered a wide range of important disarmament and nonproliferation topics. Discussions included arms control involving Russia and China, reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) cycle, naval nuclear propulsion, emerging technology implications, and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. Additionally, challenges related to biological and chemical weapons were addressed.

"The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving and strengthening the nuclear nonproliferation regime for future generations," a statement read. It further emphasized ongoing efforts to address threats from nuclear weapon proliferation to ensure global safety and security.
