The United States has announced new sanctions targeting individuals and entities associated with Iran's nuclear research efforts that have potential military applications. The Department of State has imposed these sanctions under Executive Order 13382, which aims to curb the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Sayyed Mohammad Reza Seddighi Saber, head of the Shahid Karimi Group within Iran’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), is among those sanctioned. Seddighi Saber is involved in projects related to explosives and nuclear explosive devices.
Ahmad Haghighat Talab, a senior SPND official and nuclear scientist, is also sanctioned. Talab has been linked to Iran’s pre-2004 weapons program known as the Amad Project. He continues to contribute to Iran’s nuclear research with potential military applications and coordinates with researchers on dual-use nuclear research.
Mohammed Reza Mehdipur, another long-term SPND-affiliated official, faces sanctions as well. Mehdipur leads the Shahid Chamran Group, which conducts nuclear-related research. His work supports SPND’s efforts in nuclear and explosives research with possible military implications.
Additionally, Fuya Pars Prospective Technologists, also known as Ideal Vacuum, an SPND-affiliated company, is sanctioned for attempting to procure or fabricate equipment applicable in nuclear weapons development.
The Department of State's action underscores its commitment to preventing the proliferation of weapons capable of mass destruction by sanctioning entities and individuals contributing to such activities.
