U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Marshals Service, conducted a targeted enforcement operation on May 8 at a construction site in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The operation resulted in the arrest of 53 Dominican nationals, including seven women, who were working illegally at the La Concha Renaissance San Juan Resort hotel construction worksite.
All individuals arrested are currently in ICE custody and are awaiting removal proceedings. Rebecca González-Ramos, Special Agent in Charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations in San Juan, stated: "Our goal in conducting workplace compliance inspections is to verify that businesses are not employing people who do not have permission to work in the U.S.” She added that ICE will continue to collaborate with local enforcement authorities to identify businesses violating immigration laws and remove individuals illegally present on the island.
ICE emphasizes its focus on public safety and national security threats. During such operations, individuals found to be illegally present in the United States may be detained and processed for removal as per legal guidelines.
The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities by contacting the ICE Tip Line at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or through their online tip form.
