Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

On May 12, 2025, Robert Leon Johnson was sentenced to 294 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer. Johnson was charged with possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Court documents reveal that on March 31, 2023, a Mobile Police Officer observed Johnson driving a motorcycle and conducted a traffic stop near his residence. Johnson was seen carrying a black backpack and was bending up from the front of a vehicle parked on his property when approached by the officer.

Another officer soon arrived at the scene and noticed the same black backpack placed under the front of the vehicle. A search of the backpack revealed two plastic bags containing approximately 131.3 grams of methamphetamine and $1,176 in U.S. currency. Johnson has an extensive criminal history.

The investigation was carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the City of Mobile Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George F. May.
