Guatemalan national sentenced for illegal reentry into the U.S

Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

A Guatemalan national has been sentenced for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. On May 8, 2025, Manolo Elias Tecum-Tecum, 31, was given a time-served sentence and a one-year term of supervised release by Judge Dubose. Tecum-Tecum had been in custody since his arrest on February 18, 2025.

Court documents reveal that deputies from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office stopped Tecum-Tecum for a traffic violation. Suspecting he might not be a U.S. citizen, they contacted the United States Border Patrol (USBP). USBP confirmed that Tecum-Tecum had been deported in 2010 and convicted of illegal entry that same year.

Upon his release from prison, Tecum-Tecum will be referred to immigration officials for deportation proceedings. He was also ordered to pay $100 in special assessments.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jimmy L. Thomas prosecuting.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aiming to combat illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
