Last month, INTERPOL Washington delivered equipment to Malaysia as part of Project TERMINUS. This initiative aims to enhance Malaysia's capabilities in detecting and intercepting transnational criminals, terrorists, and other threats at its borders.
"Malaysia has been a valued Project TERMINUS partner since 2016 and a critical ally in combating terrorism and violent extremism," said INTERPOL Washington Acting Director Sean Tolbert. "These upgraded systems will empower Malaysian authorities to strengthen border security and protect the region and beyond by identifying and stopping criminals and terrorists before they reach other countries or cross into our country."
The enhancements are expected to significantly improve traveler screening. By utilizing INTERPOL's resources, this project aids in preventing potentially harmful travel to the United States through a better understanding of global travel patterns.
During their visit, the TERMINUS team updated previously deployed border security solutions in Malaysia. Discussions were held with senior officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Immigration Malaysia, INTERPOL Malaysia, and the Royal Malaysia Police. These talks aimed to identify gaps that could be addressed collaboratively, focusing on improvements like enhanced database integration.
Malaysian airports process nearly 100 million travelers annually and are located along the strategic Strait of Malacca. Strengthening Malaysia’s border security infrastructure contributes not only to regional stability but also to global security by disrupting illicit movements. INTERPOL Washington remains committed to enhancing its partnership with Malaysia for a safer Indo-Pacific region and world.
