Sayee Chaitanya Reddy Devagiri has admitted to conspiring to defraud DoorDash, Inc., a food delivery company based in San Francisco, of more than $2.5 million. The 30-year-old resident of Newport Beach, California, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The charges stem from activities between 2020 and 2021 when Devagiri was employed as a delivery driver for DoorDash. He collaborated with others to orchestrate a scheme that involved placing high-value orders using customer accounts and reassigning these orders within the company's software system to driver accounts he controlled. These orders were falsely reported as delivered, prompting payments from DoorDash for services not rendered.
Devagiri manipulated the company's computer systems to repeatedly execute this fraudulent process, which typically took less than five minutes per order and was conducted hundreds of times. This resulted in over $2.5 million in illicit payments.
Acting United States Attorney Patrick D. Robbins and FBI Special Agent in Charge Sanjay Virmani announced the guilty plea. Devagiri is one of three defendants convicted in connection with this conspiracy. Co-defendant Manaswi Mandadapu entered a guilty plea on May 6, 2025, while Tyler Thomas Bottenhorn pleaded guilty on November 7, 2023.
Devagiri's next court appearance is scheduled for September 16, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman for a status hearing. He could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 upon sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael G. Pitman is leading the prosecution with support from Sahib Kaur following an investigation by the FBI.
