An individual from Mexico, previously convicted of sexual assault against a minor, has been sentenced to 35 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. This was announced by Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Chad E. Meacham.
Enrique Campos-Gomez, aged 45, was indicted in November 2024 and pleaded guilty in January 2025 to reentering the U.S. after being deported by immigration authorities in 2014. The sentence was handed down on May 8 by U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle.
During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors presented Campos-Gomez as a community threat due to his criminal history. His record includes a conviction for domestic violence in Dallas County in 2008 and multiple violations of a protective order obtained by the same victim during 2008 and 2009. Additionally, he was convicted in Dallas County in 2013 for sexually assaulting a fifteen-year-old girl and failed to register as a sex offender as required by federal law.
“This case highlights the continuing need to protect the public from offenders with violent tendencies who should not be in the United States in the first place,” stated Acting United States Attorney Chad E. Meacham. “Individuals such as these attempting to hide illegally in this country will be found and brought to justice.”
Josh Johnson, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Dallas, emphasized their commitment: “ICE and our federal law enforcement partners have an unrelenting commitment of protecting minors and other at-risk members in our society.” He added that "criminal aliens like this one who repeatedly prey on our children are not welcome in our communities."
The investigation was conducted by ICE, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Katy Garner prosecuting the case.
