A Mexican national has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported four times. Chief United States District Judge Andrew P. Gordon issued the sentence, which includes three years of supervised release.

Casiano Meza-Cadenas was discovered by immigration officials on October 22, 2023. He had previously been deported on August 19, 2004, September 24, 2008, May 26, 2018, and May 6, 2019. In 2024, Meza-Cadenas entered ICE custody following a state conviction for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. This marked his fifth firearms-related conviction. Among these was a notable incident in 2016 where he was convicted of battery with substantial bodily harm after shooting two individuals.

Meza-Cadenas pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States. This is his second conviction for this crime; he was previously convicted in the Southern District of California in 2018.

The announcement came from United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke.

The case was investigated by the ICE Salt Lake City Las Vegas Sub-Office and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
