Former Suffolk County Jail Officer pleads guilty in vehicle fraud scheme

A Quincy man has admitted guilt in a federal court for falsely claiming to sell repossessed vehicles by impersonating law enforcement officers. Recardo S. Beale, 34, pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud. U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun has scheduled his sentencing for August 26, 2025.

Beale was charged in March 2025 and previously served as an officer for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department from April to November 2021. Between October 2023 and February 2024, he misled three individuals into believing he could sell them repossessed vehicles at low prices by posing as a law enforcement officer.

According to the charging documents, Beale falsely presented himself as a Sheriff, Boston Police Detective, or Massachusetts State Police Trooper. The individuals paid tens of thousands of dollars for vehicles like a BMW, Audi, and Mercedes that Beale promised but never delivered because he did not have access to any repossessed vehicles.

In one instance on November 17, 2023, surveillance footage showed Beale wearing attire similar to jail guards during a meeting at the Suffolk County House of Correction where he purportedly intended to show a vehicle but failed to do so.

The wire fraud charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison, along with three years of supervised release and a fine reaching $250,000. Sentences are determined based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Ketty Larco-Ward from the United States Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Office; and Kim Milka from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Boston Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caroline Merck and John Mulcahy are prosecuting the case.
