National Farmers Union (NFU) President Rob Larew issued a statement regarding the recent announcement by the United States and China to implement a 90-day tariff reduction. The decision aims to alleviate trade tensions between the two nations.
"We are encouraged to see the administration responding to the concerns of farmers and ranchers by taking steps to ease trade tensions with China," Larew said. He emphasized that farmers have invested years in developing China as a significant market for various agricultural products, highlighting the importance of future trade agreements building on this foundation.
Larew acknowledged the positive nature of this development but noted ongoing challenges. "While today’s news is a positive next step, farmers continue to face significant uncertainty," he said. He also stressed that NFU is closely monitoring negotiations and expects any forthcoming deals to provide substantial benefits for American family farmers and ranchers.
