The Department of the Interior has announced a public comment period aimed at streamlining federal regulations. This initiative supports the Administration's goal to reduce regulatory burdens, aligning with President Donald J. Trump's deregulatory agenda.
The Interior Department is seeking public input to identify outdated or overly complex regulations. The objective is to lower costs, stimulate economic growth, and support energy independence while maintaining legal and environmental responsibilities.
This effort follows Executive Order 14154, issued on President Trump's first day in office, directing agencies to develop plans to modify or eliminate burdensome regulations. In response, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum signed Secretary’s Order No. 3418 on February 3, mandating reviews and action plans from all Assistant Secretaries.
Interior is implementing two immediate actions: requesting public feedback on reducing regulatory burdens and establishing an email address (Interior.RegulatoryInfo@doi.gov) for direct submissions from individuals and organizations.
The public comment period will last at least 30 days, with ongoing acceptance of input through the dedicated email address. These steps are part of a broader commitment by the Interior Department to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in federal decision-making.
