A Mexican national, Geraldo Maya-Gonzalez, was sentenced to 24 months in prison and three years of supervised release for illegally reentering the United States. This sentencing occurred after he had been deported from the country on three previous occasions. Chief United States District Judge Andrew P. Gordon sentenced Maya-Gonzalez to 18 months in prison on Thursday. The following day, United States District Judge James C. Mahan added a consecutive six-month sentence for violating the terms of his supervised release related to a 2018 conviction for the same offense.
Court documents reveal that immigration officials discovered Maya-Gonzalez on January 27, 2021, following his prior deportations on March 3, 2011, June 5, 2012, and July 26, 2019. In 2024, he came into ICE custody after serving a state sentence for drug trafficking.
Maya-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States. This marks his third conviction for this offense.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke.
The investigation was conducted by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office, with prosecution handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
