In Florence, South Carolina, two men from Marion have received federal prison sentences for charges related to illegal firearms and narcotics. Larry Sheron Brown Jr., aged 33, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison after admitting to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Meanwhile, Larry Robinson, aged 40, received a five-year sentence for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Investigations revealed that Robinson was found with firearms on two occasions. On March 24, 2023, he had a .380 handgun. A month later, authorities discovered him with a 9mm firearm and 14 grams of powdered cocaine.
Brown's case involved an incident at the Circle K in Marion where he allegedly threatened customers and displayed a firearm. Following his arrest, law enforcement recovered a 9mm firearm matching the description provided by witnesses. Brown has prior felony convictions prohibiting him from possessing firearms.
United States District Judge Joseph Dawson III sentenced Brown to 18 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. United States District Judge Sherri A. Lydon sentenced Robinson to five years imprisonment with the same period of supervision post-release. The federal system does not allow parole.
These cases are part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program focuses on building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement efforts, and evaluating outcomes.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Marion Police Department conducted the investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Ellis is handling the prosecution.
