Api supports house committee's budget reconciliation bill passage

WASHINGTON, May 14, 2025 – The American Petroleum Institute (API) has expressed approval following the House Ways and Means Committee's passage of its section of the budget reconciliation bill. API President and CEO Mike Sommers said, "We congratulate Chairman Jason Smith and the House Ways and Means Committee for passing a tax plan that supports American energy leadership. We look forward to working with Congress on a final tax package that strengthens pro-investment policies, accelerates innovation and advances global competitiveness."

API represents various segments of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, which is responsible for nearly 11 million jobs in the country. The organization has approximately 600 members who are involved in producing, processing, and distributing most of the nation's energy. These members also participate in API Energy Excellence, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental and safety advancements through new technologies and transparent reporting.

Founded in 1919 as a standards-setting body, API has developed over 800 standards to improve operational safety, efficiency, sustainability, and environmental protection.
