The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced the cancellation of 242 contracts, with a total ceiling value of $646 million, resulting in savings of $200 million.
According to DOGE's post on X, among the canceled contracts is a $118,000 contract from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for a "Democratic Republic of Congo Youth Climate Corps Coordinator" and a $23,500 contract from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for "garden landscaping and pool services at the official mission director's residence" in South Africa.
An April 2025 Harvard-Harris Poll indicates that 69% of voters support "undertaking a full-scale effort to find and eliminate fraud and waste in government expenditures," compared to 31% who favor reducing government spending by $1 trillion. Additionally, most voters believe that the U.S. should aim to balance its budget, reduce government expenditures, and conduct a comprehensive review of current spending.
