U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Fort Brown Station apprehended a previously deported sex offender on Wednesday morning near Brownsville, Texas. The individual, identified as Jose Guadalupe Perez-Garza, is a 53-year-old Mexican national.
During processing at the Fort Brown Station, it was discovered that Perez-Garza has an extensive criminal record in the United States. His history includes a felony conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child by the 197th District Court of Cameron County, Texas. In 2013, he was sentenced to ten years of confinement for this offense.
Perez-Garza had been removed from the United States on four previous occasions. His most recent removal occurred in January 2025 after serving 41 months in federal prison following his June 2022 conviction for illegally re-entering the U.S., having been previously deported under 8 USC 1326.
"This arrest highlights the importance of our border security mission," stated Gloria Chavez, Chief Patrol Agent of the Rio Grande Valley Sector. "Our agents remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent dangerous criminals from entering our communities."
Perez-Garza now faces prosecution for illegal re-entry after deportation, which is classified as a felony under Title 8 of the U.S. Code.
