Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced the sentencing of Raudel Miranda-Martinez, a 47-year-old Mexican national, for illegal re-entry into the United States. Miranda-Martinez was sentenced on May 13, 2025, after pleading guilty to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
Court records indicate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents encountered Miranda-Martinez at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana on January 11, 2023. He had been arrested for public intoxication and was found to have unlawfully re-entered the country after his initial deportation on September 9, 2004.
Since his first deportation in 2004, Miranda-Martinez has been removed from the United States at least five times: September 26, 2005; October 14, 2011; January 3, 2013; March 6, 2018; and September 6, 2022. He has two prior convictions for illegal re-entry under Title 8 of the United States Code. In these cases, he received sentences of imprisonment totaling over seven years.
In addition to immigration violations, Miranda-Martinez has previous criminal convictions including drug possession, theft, and burglary.
On May 13th this year, U.S. District Judge Brandon S. Long sentenced him to a term of imprisonment lasting sixty-six months followed by three years of supervised release and imposed a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this case. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit.
