API urges House to pass budget reconciliation for energy leadership

The American Petroleum Institute (API) has called on the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the budget reconciliation bill, emphasizing its potential to bolster American energy leadership. API President and CEO Mike Sommers highlighted the significance of this legislative opportunity, stating, "Congress has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help restore American energy dominance, and Speaker Johnson and House Leadership have taken an important step forward with a pro-growth tax plan."

Sommers elaborated on the bill's provisions, which include opening lease sales, advancing permitting measures, reversing a "punitive 'methane fee,'" and maintaining competitive tax policies. He expressed optimism about collaborating with Congress on finalizing a tax package that would enhance investment-friendly provisions while ensuring America remains at the forefront of innovation and energy production.

API represents various segments of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, supporting nearly 11 million jobs nationwide. The organization is supported by a growing grassroots movement involving millions of Americans. With approximately 600 members involved in producing, processing, and distributing most of the nation's energy, API also participates in API Energy Excellence, which promotes environmental and safety advancements through new technologies and transparent reporting.

Founded in 1919 as a standards-setting body, API has developed over 800 standards aimed at improving operational safety, efficiency, sustainability, and environmental protection.
