Amherst man sentenced for fentanyl distribution

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Dewayne Vass, 43, from Amherst, New York, has been sentenced to 188 months in prison. Vass was convicted of possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, who managed the case, reported that on July 12, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a Moselle Avenue residence linked to Vass and his Sunshine Drive home and vehicle. During the search, authorities found large quantities of cocaine and fentanyl, approximately $127,000 in cash, a pistol, and drug paraphernalia.

The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff John Garcia's direction and the Federal Bureau of Investigation led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
