Kirkland man faces federal charges for possessing child sexual abuse images

A Kirkland, Washington man has been charged federally with possession of images of child sexual abuse. Daniel Jose Lile, 34, was arrested on April 16, 2025, by Department of Corrections Officers for possessing unapproved electronic devices and is currently detained at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac.

Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller announced that Lile was on community supervision from the Washington State Department of Corrections following a 2019 conviction for child sexual abuse. A search warrant executed on May 12, 2025, at the residence he shared with his girlfriend led to the seizure of additional unauthorized electronic devices including two external hard drives, a laptop, and a cellphone.

Ongoing forensic analysis revealed that one external hard drive contained over 130,000 files depicting child sexual abuse. A folder reportedly included more than fifty videos and picture files involving infants and toddlers.

The investigation followed a report from Google to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about Lile allegedly uploading such images before his arrest by corrections officers.

If convicted, possession of these images carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years imprisonment with a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years under these circumstances. It is important to note that charges are allegations until proven beyond reasonable doubt in court.

The case is under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), along with the Washington State Department of Corrections and the Kirkland Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Gregson is prosecuting the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The program coordinates resources across federal, state, and local levels to address these crimes effectively.
