Tyrell Anthony West, a 30-year-old resident of the District of Columbia and previously convicted felon, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for possessing a loaded Glock semiautomatic pistol. The sentencing took place today in U.S. District Court.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, ATF Special Agent in Charge Anthony Spotswood from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives - Washington Division, FBI Assistant Director in Charge Steven J. Jensen from the Washington Field Office, and Chief Pamela Smith from the Metropolitan Police Department.

West entered a guilty plea on February 13, 2025, for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Amit P. Mehta ordered West to serve three years of supervised release.

Court documents reveal that on February 26, 2024, officers from the MPD’s Robbery Suppression Unit observed West with a silver Mercedes Benz C300 that was not registered in their database. Upon investigation at Knox Place SE around 7:30 p.m., officers found that the vehicle's VIN number was obscured.

While checking the vehicle's registration status with West present, an officer discovered a firearm when West opened both the glove compartment and center console. Concurrently, another officer confirmed that the Mercedes had been reported stolen from Howard County, Maryland.

MPD officers recovered a black Glock .45 caliber semi-automatic firearm loaded with one round in the chamber and thirteen rounds in its magazine from the car's center console. DNA evidence later linked West to this weapon.

Additionally found were three plastic bags containing white rock substance weighing approximately 82.79 grams along with a digital scale showing white residue; testing identified it as N,N-dimethylpentalone—an illegal synthetic controlled substance known as 'boot.' Officers also retrieved twenty-eight suspected suboxone strips from inside the trunk.

West has prior convictions including carrying without license which led him initially being sentenced eighteen months' imprisonment on April22nd ,2022 but suspended; however,on February9th ,2023 he received nine-months incarceration upon resentencing .

This case involved investigations conducted jointly by FBI alongside Metropolitan Police Department while prosecution handled collaboratively through efforts spearheaded primarily via contributions rendered notably through involvement Special Assistant US Attorney Emily Reeder-Ricchetti plus former counterparts Omeed Ali Assefi Monica Svetoslavov respectively .
